It has been brought to my attention that I have a parasite problem here. I have been being pro active in notifying families etc.  I am not making excuses. I have done some research of other web sites of dog breeders. I am going to put an excerpt here off of one of the sites. I am doing this to explain that I am not the only breeder that has had a problem such as this. I base this statement on the policies at affordable pups. They would never have these guidelines and rules if they have not had a problem in the past.

YOU MAY USE THE REMAINER OF THE YOGURT THROUGH OUT THE NEXT FEW DAYS TO HELP THE PUPPY ADJUST! PLEASE GET 1 CAN CEASERS PUPPY (PINK LABEL) AS WELL AS ROTISSARY CHICKEN! THESE THREE ITEMS WILL HELP THE PUPPY EAT AS SOON AS THEY ARRIVE WHICH IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT! THE CHICKEN NEEDS TO BE WARM AND MOIST AND THE PUPPY SHOULD EAT IT RIGHT UP!!! ROYAL CANINE PUPPY #33 IS THE HARD FOOD THAT YOU RECEIVED WITH THE PUPPY. ***IF YOUR PUPPY WEIGHS LESS THAN 2LBS PLEASE GET KARO SYRUP (CLEAR ONLY) AND GIVE THE PUPPY 1CC EVERY 2-4 HOURS FOR AT LEAST 2 WEEKS AFTER ARRIVAL*** Failure to follow all of the above directions in red voids any guarantee affordable pups offers!!! Please follow these directions if you are not comfortable with following these directions or think you know better please contact us ASAP. Please contact us prior to us shipping the puppy as we do not want to put the puppy in any kind of danger. We ship teacup puppies on a frequent basis and we know what helps in adapting them into their new surroundings! REMEMBER PLEASE DO NOT LET YOUR PUPPY EXHAUST THEMSELVES IN THE FIRST FEW DAYS! MINIMIZE THEIR ACTIVITY AND MAKE SURE THEY TAKE TIME TO EAT THEIR FOOD AND DRINK WATER."
If this is what they require, I think it is good enough for me from now on. Just because I have been pretty much problem free for 12 years doesn't mean I can not learn from others.

Hi Diane,

Funny I saw this the other day and was going to ask my vet.  Thought I would mention this to you, too.  As humans we should take a probiotic so why not our dogs, too?

Canine FortiFlora is a supplement used to manage dog diarrhea and encourage gastrointestinal health in dogs by creating a strong immune system through the use of live probiotic cultures. It also includes antioxidant vitamins and can be used for the dietary management of dogs with digestive system disorders. FortiFlora is easy to use because of its palatability and ease of storage.

This is another excerpt from their web site.

A: Of course. There are many options. Puppies are like babies. They need nutrition every 2 to 3 hours. However, they don't cry like babies so you must be even MORE proactive with puppies. Small breeds are much different than larger breeds. Labradors & Rottweiler puppies are very different than a 1 lbs Yorkie puppy. You must hand the small breed puppies differently. You should always allow your puppy access to their hard food. 24/7 they should be able to eat hard food at their leisure. Over-eating is rare amongst small breeds & won't happen until a year or so of life (if at all). During puppy stages--feed, feed, feed! Puppy weight is good weight & a full belly means a happy puppy. In addition to their hard food, the following items are recommended to encourage eating: (rotisserie chicken (human style), Dannon Activia Yogurt, Puppy Caesers Soft Food, Raw Ground Beef (yes, Raw), Honey & Caro Syrup are sometimes used on hard food to entice the puppy to eat as well. Think about it like this... before there was "puppy food" you could buy at the local mart...How did puppies survive? This should help you when choosing the best food to feed your little one. Small Breed puppies sometimes lack appetite due to a change in environment. A puppy can be on hard food for 3 weeks and doing fine...if you change the puppy's habitat... they might begin fresh with their eating habits. The encouragement you give them during the transition is NOT CAUSING BAD HABITS. Table food/scraps is not what we're recommending. We are recommending a high protein diet & these items suggested are what we've found to work flawlessly."
